Newton's 1st Law of Motion

By Alexis Clement

Newton's 1st Law of Motion

A year ago today we were on the drive to move to Texas 😱 I can’t even believe it’s already been a year. The decision to move was purely based on a good feeling & not knowing what to do next.

Over a year ago we had been in the middle of purchasing a business thinking we would stay in St. George possibly forever. After months and months of time working on that business - all day and night... literally into early hours of the mornings, and after lots of money spent remodeling, paying attorney frees to draft contracts, etc. The seller decided to back out last minute. We were FORCED to take a step back and decide what direction we should go next.

Newton’s 1st Law of Motion (basically) is that an object in motion will stay in motion until acted on by an outside force. There have been multiple times in my life and our married life that we’ve just so clearly felt like we would have just stayed in motion, going through a routine, living a pretty happy life sure, but not progressing the way we want to until an outside force stopped us and we had to reconsider our direction.

Life since moving to Texas has been a much heavier load by far. Living in St. George, and owning a little local business could have been a happy life for us. But how grateful I am everyday for the life we are experiencing here and now instead.

A year ago we never imagined how much more depth we could have in our marriage, church experience, relationship with God, business endeavors and just life in general.

It’s almost been two years since we were stopped in our tracks while purchasing that business in St. George. Since then we have honestly had a good 3 or 4 other “outside forces” stopping our motion causing us to step back and reconsider. But I’ll save those for another time 🙃 It hasn’t been sunshine every day. But I will say the sunshine has been much, much brighter because of the experiences that caused us to reconsider, redirect, and begin again.

I feel grateful now for these types of experiences! 🙌🏼 What a blessing it is in life to have sellers back out of deals! There is so much goodness and depth ahead every single time an outside force stops our motion.

I BELIEVE THIS FULLY.

Love,

Lex

When the Light Rested

By Alexis Clement

When the Light Rested

When the Light Rested // 48x60 in // acrylic on canvas⁣

I’m sure nearly all of you know, but if you don’t, I’d thought I’d share a quick little fun fact about me. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We believe in God the Father, his son Jesus Christ and in the Holy Ghost. Two interesting things we believe that are a little different than other Christian sects is that 1. God and Jesus Christ are two separate beings and 2. God still calls prophets just like he did in biblical times. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This painting is a depiction of when God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared to the prophet named Joseph Smith in the 1800’s. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
It’s one of the most meaningful paintings I’ve done to date. In Joseph Smith’s writings of the event he describes kneeling in a grove of trees praying to find an answer of which church he should join. After feeling overcome with total darkness he saw a pillar of light descend upon him. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
In his words he said, “I saw a pillar of light exactly over my head, above the brightness of the sun, which descended gradually until it fell upon me.… When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
“When the light rested upon me I saw”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I don’t know why but that phrase just HITS me. Despite the darkness Jospeh experienced, when God’s light rested upon him he was able to see clearly.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Despite any darkness we may feel, despite life’s questions that seem unanswerable, despite any injustice we feel we don’t deserve, if we ask, God’s light will rest upon us so we can see. See the way He sees.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This event has been depicted in a million different ways. A lot of artists focus solely on the light Joseph saw, but I wanted to focus on what he saw BECAUSE of the light - Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. It’s scary to try and do my own version, but I did it. And after over a year of this hanging on my wall I decided I’d stop being scaredy and share it with you guys! haha!

I'll be selling prints in my shop soon❤️

XOXO,

Lexi

Year Four

By Alexis Clement

Year Four

Me and Cars have been married for FOUR years this year. Isn’t that insane?⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I love looking back at old photos and seeing how in love we were without even knowing all of the happiness, life, trials, joy, adventures, and LOVE that was ahead for us.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We’ve known each other for 10 years this year. We met when I was 17 and he was 15. I had seen him at school & thought he was a hottie but it ended there since he was two years younger 😂 Carson reached out to me on Facebook and we basically never stopped talking after that day. Including Skyping until 2 or 3 in the morning for years. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I remember trying to not take it serious, or consider us dating because it would never work out anyways with our ages. By the time I graduated, he graduated, and then served a mission it would be five years & I thought for SURE I would be married 😂 But as always, God has a way of making things work out for the best. I went to college, dated other people, he lived up high school, then the mission age changed and both of us served missions. The 5 year gap turned into a 4 year gap & more than half of it was while both serving missions. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
We didn’t date or even write too much as missionaries but I still consider those years some of the most influential in our relationship. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
God’s timing truly is perfect and meant to bless each of us. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
“How great reason have we to rejoice; for could we have supposed when we started . . . that God would have granted unto us such great blessings?”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I could have never of supposed when me and Cars first met 10 years ago, the great blessings that God had in store for us. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I feel completely indebted to Heavenly Father for the gift he has given me being married to Carson. My life is so full because of him ❤️ ⁣

With Love,

Lex

Numéro Un

Numéro Un

That's French for "number one." I'm basically fluent after practicing the ol' middle school French knowledge these past few weeks on an app. I'll prove that to you later though..

Where to begin? How to begin? If this was my personal journal it would start something like this, "WOW! It's been forever since I've written. A lot to catch up on."

I guess that's somewhat true here too. A lot to catch up on. Like who I even am. What I'm even doing.

I'm Alexis Clement. Born in February of 1993. I've loved art as long as I can even remember. In high school I started getting into photography and that's where I spent the last 11 years - in the photography world, not high school haha (probably should have stayed in high school math for 2 or 3 of those 11 years unfortunately.)

So fast forward to where I'm at in life now. It's as simple as I have REALLY missed "fine" art. I feel strongly that when God gives us talents, or even just small interests, we should work hard to grow them. So this is me trying to grow the small interest and talent I have in art. Now, photography is kind of a thing of the past, I co-own a small business called Oh Clementine, and art is my most favorite hobby. I try to take it seriously, in like a really fun, light-hearted kind of way.

The things I share here on this blog and the art I sell in my shop are definitely not cohesive. I repeat: they are NOT cohesive. Fun huh? Way fun for me to create, and hopefully way fun for you to look at. It also represents my life a little too, FUN, a little unorganized, and happy.

Since we most likely can't hang out in person we'll consider this a virtual hang out. I'm so glad you're here! Stay awhile! Take a little look around! And please, please come again soon. 😘

Love always,

Lex
